I suppose my disconnect was from who/what he was addressing; I don't think either me or Nocte hopes they abandon deathcore. We're just contemplating how they might evolve in the future.

'It's my opinion that these guys are close. But they're also close to dropping that 'core' tag. Not to sound like a genre hater but if they manage to separate themselves from it, chances are these guys will be premiere material.' - Nocte.
If you read that comment in isolation, then I could see how someone would think Nocte wanted them to drop the 'core' element of their sound tbh. It was clarified/elaborated upon later mind.

It was clear Nocte didn't mean AT ALL COSTS, just that it might benefit them to move further away from that sound.

I think you've got the basis of my point there. And yeah that comment, read separate would identify exactly what you just pointed out but like you also said it's part of a larger clarification.

I was trying to remember who these guys reminded me of and then it hit me - the Breathing Process, albeit much better.

Reading the comments you wouldn't think most people on this website like it so much, I personally think its pretty awesome.

They're very reminiscent of Cattle Decap imo

Agree with the fact that the mixing is weird. Guitars and Bass sound like one entity and not separated. And symphonic elements are just too upfront in the mix detracting from other instruments. Like I said before, this could do without the synths.
Good review.

ya this does the thing

The symphonic stuff is a huge part of their established sound, I think most fans would be upset to see it removed. The riffs are good enough that it isn't needed but the extra flavor isn't something that I would want to see taken out of the mix.
