I just love the style, too bad both vocalists split.
My friend is trying to get me into this band and all I can say is that they are an acquired taste.
You might want to try 'The Trees are dead...'

I prefer The Trees Are Dead... to this. Half of this album lacks the same killer punch as the other - tracks like Flogging the Horses and Sanguine Seas of Bigotry destroy most other technical metal. Learning their songs is an absolute bitch.

haha, i could see how learning their stuff would be hard... they change up the speeds so often that it'd just be difficult as hell. and lately i've been listening to the song summer rain, the bass throughout it sounds awesome.

The guitar work in this band is amazing. They do some very technical work that I haven't quite seen done by any other band recently

They tend to do a lot of two handed tapping in quick bursts which can make learning the songs a bit awkward if you're not acquainted with their style.

Learning Summer Rain is actually one of the biggest mindfucks in the world.

I've gone off SikTh a little bit. Lyrically, they are a tad silly and the vocals aren't exactly exemplary. But the draw is the instrumentation - very tight, precise and inventive.

Didn't these guys break up recently? That would very sad news!

The first song on this album has alot of that intertwined into the opening riff. That blew my mind the first time I heard it.

Yeah, Bland Street Bloom is nuts in the riff department.

No they haven't broken up. The two vocalists left to pursue other projects. But the band are definitely still together, they're just hunting down new vocalists.

I'm really interested in what their new stuff will sound like. I'm hoping for an even more technical, progressive sound with better vocals.

I see them going in a more progressive metal direction with a little less technical sound. Thats just my guess anyways.

The things Mikee could do with his voice are completely indescribable at points.

Hopefully their next album will completely slay in the technicality department.

This is a stupidly talented band. For the longest time I considered Dream Theater to be the most all-round technically skilled band in the world...until I heard these guys. I can honestly say this band is beyond immensely skilled as technicians on their instruments, are ridiculously talented songwriters and most importantly, are RADICALLY original. The closest I can get to a band that resembles SikTh's style is The Number 12 Looks Like You....and that's a helluva stretch. An all time favorite band of mine. Good review, although I think that Flogging The Horses, Way Beyond The Fond Old River and In This Light and especially Sanguine Seas of Bigotry are four of the strongest tracks on the album. Then again think about the track listing there isn't many weaknesses....

1. Bland Street Bloom

2. Flogging the Horses

3. Way Beyond the Fond Old River

5. In This Light

6. Sanguine Seas of Bigotry (quite possibly the most evil-sounding riff ever)

9. Part of the Friction

10. Where Do We Fall

11. Another Sinking Ship

Any one of those tracks could have been released as a single...

It is a huge shame Mikee and Justin parted their ways with the band.

And yeah, they could get even more tech - Pin used to teach some guitarists in the UK. He's ridiculously talented. Same with Dan and Dan (guitarist & drummer).

James Leach is a phenomenal bassist too (Summer Rain is just silly).

Just got bland street bloom from a friend and it reeks of awesomeness. Is this a good album to start with for these guys?
