I haven't listened to them since like 2009 but I recall them not being very good. Maybe another shot? Does their last album bear any similarity? What I'm in love with here is the fun rhythm section and vocal melodies interspersed with Tesseract-worship guitar tone moments.

Yeah idk I gave some of that iwabo album a shot after seeing that comment, but I think this crushes that. That’s what I like about this too Nomos2 and yeah I didn’t hear anything like that in the iwabo album

I just don't hear that clean, brooding, reverb-rich tone enough anymore in metal, let alone in *good* metal. Tesseract's last album killed me in how much it disappointed. It felt like an expanded EP with nothing to say.

So I pop this on and immediately get those good-old-days Altered States vibes while not feeling like I'm hearing a copycat. Fun rhythms abound. And the vocal delivery and cadence is dynamic, never making me bored. Very rare for me to fall for an album this much, this fast. It just doesn't happen anymore, so I'm not sure how I'm so late to the game in finding this one. I have Spotify to thank for that.

Did you hear the new singles? I like two of them just as much, if not more, than the tracks here. I'm loving their current trajectory.

I think I'm in love with this album and those new singles. Easily the band I'm most excited for new material from. Man I love finds like this. Haven't stopped listening.

Edit: Oooh lucky me. Checking out their FB page and see they announced two shows, both in Alberta. I guess they're Canadian?! So they're playing their first ever live shows as a band and I get to see the second in Edmonton. They're opening for Misery Signals and Sight & Sounds.

Edit 2: I may still be in the honeymoon period with this album, and I don't do this often, but baby, this is gettin' 5'd

Hell yeah. Not quite as catchy as the others for me but I love how heavy it is. I think one more single will be released.

So stoked to see these guys open for Misery Signals next month.

The problem is all their other songs are like 11/10, so when Belcarra is only 8/10 I can't help but feel slightly disappointed.

once again we agree art lol

Yeah everything they've released so far have been what would normally be album-best songs. So Belcarra is "merely" a 9/10 instead of an 11/10 for me just because it's not as melodic and constantly changing as some of their other tracks feel.

j/k I just got to see them perform Belcarra live and it was fucking sick. Courtney can SCREAM and sustain those screams, holy shit!

They saw me a buy a shirt while on their way away from the stage and stopped to thank me. So the band is also super nice, which skyrockets any band up to the top of my list even more.

Good god why are there not more people listening to these guys? Bizarre. A local act here even had billing over them. Not acceptable!

Hell yeah there was a Misery Signals show here, and before Misery Signals and Sights & Sounds and and an OK local act, Spiritbox ended up playing only second that night. It was their third concert as a band but they were phenomenal.

So there were less people than they deserved, and that venue's live mix balance is hit and miss, but they put on a great show! The bass and heavier guitar moments were so chunky and satisfying, and Courtney is a great live vocalist. They hired on a full time drummer who did a good job, and the guitar work was nailed. I mean I've memorized every note of every song so I was being picky hahaha.

Was pretty drunk at that point but I remember they also played Electric Cross and I think The Mara Effect tracks? Maybe 5-6 songs total, I wish it was longer!

I tried to snap some photos on my crappy iPhone camera, and one came out pretty OK with the colors. Their guitar player just messaged me last night on Instagram to ask if he could repost it, so that's pretty cool.

10/10 would see again. I'm very lucky that me and them are both Western Canadians, so I have a good chance of seeing them before long.

I got a friend into them and he came too. Called it one of his all-time top-3 live sets, which was nice. It's a pleasant feeling recommending music to someone who ends up adoring it that much.

Great way to end Edmonton's metal concert drought! Now Baroness and Deafheaven and Zeal & Ardor this Fri night : )

And the sad part is I had to leave right before Misery Signals. Smoked and drank too much and my back was killing me. I hear they were excellent LOL.

Thanks so much, watching now. Not gonna lie, I was a bit salty your drunk ass didn't get any footage since this band hasn't played a show in over a year and you were lucky enough to be there. That show was only about a 30 hour drive from me and I would have done it if I had any idea they were actually playing live. I'm so fucking jealous of you lmao glad you had a great time though
