It's definitely not like her debut. It's much more scatter-brain, imo. Much more frantic and 'crawl up the walls'-ish. Second half is stronger, but I'm loving it front to back. Really didn't know what to expect since her debut dropped almost a fucking decade ago. Hah

Souls are overrated anyway, Sandwich. Soles, however, are vital.

idk if I like this as much as her debut, much of the mysticism and atmosphere is lost in favor of political ramblings and LCD Soundsystem type techno beats

this thread's aforementioned shaking the habitual comparison is very apt. we don't need music that stands opposed to pop, but utilizes it in smart, subversive ways.

Still not enjoying the first half all that much, runs like an inferior version of the debut with some watered down 'Habitual' notes.
Once the instrumental kicks in things take a turn for the better though.

Can’t see me enjoying this all that much, looks like it’s going for excessive-eccentric much like St Vincent

It's a little try hard...whereas something like 'Silent Shout' just sounded natural.
I think on 'Silent Shout' her vocals were cast as 'just another instrument' and I liked that. Here they're given top billing, used to drive most of the songs, and meh

i love that "embarrassing" and "cringeworthy" are always used to describe the politics of ANOHNI and Fever Ray and not, like, Arghoslent and Nokturnal Mortum
