Just bought this at FYE as well, my third from BG, i'm working backwards with them it seems. I dont think FYE has their albums prior to t his though =/ (i've heard most of SFB and IFTOS off the internet anyway) but it seems like i'll have to order them.

This is probably my favorite album. I love the vocals and melodies, and it's even cooler because I'm a huge fan of Tolkien's literature. The lyrics are put together really well and portray the feelings of the characters excellently.

On one of the first replies to this review like three years ago someone said the song "Mirror, Mirror" has nothing to do with The Silmarillion, but that's not true. The song is obviously about Turgon and Gondolin. Though I don't quite understand where the "Mirror, mirror, on the wall" line fits in, the rest makes perfect sense.

ANATO and IFTOS pretty much slay this, but this is probably BG's third best.

That's saying a lot considering I still have this rated 4.5This Message Edited On 01.13.08

I suggest getting either Somewhere Far Beyond or Imaginations From the Other side next. SFB was their breakthrough album, and the title trac is my favorite track from them. Most consider it among their best. However, I think it's slightly overrated. I would place it 5th out of the 7 BG albums I own. (soon to be 8 when BoF comes wednesday, then ill have their full discography!)

IFTOS is my second favorite. Not one bad song on there. The production is a bit muddy, but it adds to the music. The overall atmosphere is a bit darker as well...but just slightly. It's also a bit more progressive than their other releases.

A Night at the Opera is my favorite by them, and one of my favorite albums of all time. However, it is quite overblown and pretentious at times. This one seems to be more of an acquired taste than any of their other albums. For the most part, it's either considered their best, or one of their worst due to it being overblown and pretentious.

And, if you want a more simple album from them, get A Twist in the Myth. It's not as great as most of their other albums, but is still pretty awesome.

Follow the blind is pretty good also, but my least favorite from them that I own. Valhalla and Banish From Sanctuary are classic, though.

Nightfall is possibly one of THE MOST epic songs I have ever heard. Almost patriotic in a sense, just truely amazing. Almost brought a tear to my eye during the intro. Damn this band is good.
