Danred, how do you score it a 1.5 if there are decent moments of music? Wouldn't that warrant at least a 2 or even a 2.5?

And what happened to Matty's voice? Dude used to poop out high notes and now he sounds as if he's lost half of his upper range. I don't know if I can listen to this though, I actually enjoyed the singles from Unconditional way more than the singles from this.

Two moments of decent musicianship on an entire album don't make up for the rest being garbage. This would honestly be a 2, but the lyrics drag this down hard. No album lyrically has made me as mad as this one.

Actually hilarious how after you listen to this you listen to Protest The Hero or Periphery (i listened to Pacific Myth). Its like i had a horrible disease listening to this record and listening to Myth completely cured the atrocity haha!

You do realize this album's lyrics aren't that different from their previous material right?

Yep, and I have this rated the same as Unconditional. Before that, the lyrics at least didn't seem as blatantly narcissistic. As stated before, after Sleepwalking, they lost all creativity and become just another generic Rise band.

Lyrics are way different than they were on Sleepwalking that's for fucking sure.

Such a disappointment. The Hallow was an amazing album with beautiful lyrics. What happened?Musically they have so much potential, but still choose to go the generic boring route, writing riffs and breakdowns that have been done a thousand times before. Matty Mullins had so much potential as a writer with The Hallow but, again, chose to go the generic, boring, horrible, teenage rebellious lyrics like "we're fight fight fight". I use to love Memphis, but now that music isn't creative anymore and no bands have the balls to stand out and be different anymore, they are all boring.

I agree that the lyrics have hit an all time low with this one. It's unfortunate because aside from the lyrics it's great. In fact, it's my favorite of theirs musically.

I'm a Christian and I can dig positive faith-related lyrics in moderate doses (similar to that on The Hollow & Challenger, and maybe even Unconditional, although it was starting to get a little overkill with that one). There has been this really annoying shift on This Light I Hold that just irritates me while listening to it. It's like the lyrics have this sort of "high and mighty" attitude that makes Matty seem all self centered and arrogant, like everyone else in the world is evil and he is some gift from God to change that. I get that he wants to instill positive messages in his listeners but I think the direction he is going with this release is starting to backfire and making him seem a little prideful. This theme has surfaced before in small amounts, which I get, but it's like over half of the songs on this new album are this same message over and over again.

Haven't heard a single song off of this until just now. Crazy how hard they've fallen off. Just look at the amount of ratings. This one doesn't even have 80! I just saw the video for the title track and really liked it though, so I might give it a try. Not much hope as I didn't even like Challenger...

Sleepwalking was their second worst so that's not saying much

We clearly like different things about MMF snide. The southern influence in Sleepwalking was the only thing that kept the band from being another boring Rise band for me. After they ditched that, there was no reason to listen imo.

I like these guys, but they're the only boring Rise band in my library, so they sound different to the other stuff I listen to in comparison.

This doesn't deserve the avg it has, the lyrics are a bit on the nose but the music is fantastic and matty's vocals just keep improving.
