I'm not the biggest Devin fan but I really like his performance on here. Never cared too much about the lyrics tbh, they were ok for me back then for sure... It's a shame T.M.'s part in this is almost neglectable though, he could have contributed so much more.

I never disapproved his performance. I have nothing bad to say about the vocals. The man can surely sing decently and his high pitched screams sounds awesome. However, his vocals are not suitable for this kind of music as they add nothing to the actual songs.

Well I think the vocals add quite a lot to the songs and give em a certain edge. But I see you really just don't like it which I can understand, Vai's attitude is very hard to stand sometimes. Nostalgia is definitely a factor I have to take into account with this one but it's among the Vai records I still enjoy spinning from time to time.

I disagree with making everything instrumental, the vocals and "Touching Tongues" (the vocal solo on which is outrageous, btw) are the only things that keep me coming back to this, cheesy lyrics aside. Whilst Dev's vocal style doesn't usually sit well with this type of music and are more suited to metal, they're at least different and interesting enough to make this stand out slightly. If this had someone like David Lee Roth singing it would be dreadful. As it is it's an intriguing little history lesson, and the bridge on "In My Dreams With You" still blows most vocal performances EVER out of the water. But then again I am the biggest Devin fan and as I said before, this album probably appeals way more to his fans as an anomaly than to other music fans or even Vai fans themselves.

Devin's performance increases the quality quite a bit, agreed. I'd even say his style fits this type of music pretty well, never thought otherwise tbh.
