Album Rating: 3.7
Following a few EP contributions, Nashville alt-rockers Daisyhead deliver their debut LP 'The Smallest Light'. A throwback to the late 90s sound, the guitar-driven quartet also incorporate emo and shoegaze to remind of Balance & Composure. The effective use of quiet-loud dynamics heighten the emotional dual vocal delivery of the heart-wrenching lyrics. Yet, despite the often depressing subject matter, this relatively consistent album is surprisingly melodic throughout. It may feel compromised, dated & derivative at times, but this is ultimately a raw, engaging & authentic debut. Recommended Tracks: Neck, Defenselessness, East Bend & The Smallest Light.
