bruh this pales in comparison to their first 3, they just went alt rock here.
then again it's been a while since i've spun this...

No reason to relisten to lesser Helmet albums when the first 3 exist

Dunno Betty was just alright for me. Debut, Meantime and this are the best for me. Imo Betty is quite overrated

While this is kinda alt rocky, Page finally sings pretty well and there are simultaneously some serious bass and guitar combos on here
This may also be the only Helmet album that is kinda moody

Agreed, Helmet as a band are overrated. 😎
Only (sort of) kidding, but I don't really see the appeal of this one. Kind of the beginning of their downfall.

Maybe it's cos of how melodic the songs are but Page's clean vocals are shockingly good on here. Like I Care might have become my fav song by these guys

any rating below a 4 on this is just insane. Honestly, this is one of the most original sounding albums i've ever heard. It walks such a fine line on so many levels. Genius and nuanced songwriting Plus, the production??? Oh my god it is beautiful. Might be, and probably is, Helmet's best release

this would probably be a 4 from me if it weren't for the lyrical content... it kind of blows my mind this stuff was penned in the 90's
then again, I was only a small child, so I guess my societal observations back then weren't what they are today

What do you mean? I find the lyrics to be good, but how are the lyrics anything special?

Helmet aftertaste.

eh I think music is best left as a personal experience, I don't know if it's my place to provide explicit interpretations, but it seems like Page recognized the acts of trying to convince yourself and others of your own purity through empty and hollow trend following, preaching and virtue signalling almost two decades before that term was even coined (I imagine the lyrical content of previous albums is probably not far removed, but the vocals here are so clear and clean, and I've spent quite a bit of time with this one over the past few months)
