DePlazz to get into Cardiacs it depends on where your current tastes lie. There are 3 main starting points:

A Little Man And A House And The Whole World Window: Contains their most commercially successful song in prog track Is This The Life? but also some of their weirder stuff. If you go for this one first then follow it with On Land And In The Sea. If you like proggy music with odd time signatures and a playful punk ethos then go for this one.

Heaven Born And Ever Bright: Kind of their transition album but their most punk leaning album too. Day Is Gone is a good prog rock tune.

Sing to God: Definitely the most challenging but most rewarding. Band built up 5 years of material for the most eclectic and complex collection yet. Perhaps not a good starting point as it's so challenging for new listeners.

I think that is the best summary of a bands discog I have ever seen on here.

Fair play mate.

Thanks Datsdude! I like this one actually, although it's a lot to digest. I'll start anew, following your lead.

Guns is probably their weakest album so should be the last one to check. After that you have a bunch of old pre-Little Man stuff such as The Seaside and Songs For Ships And Irons which is like a compilation album of old tracks. The Seaside is like a demo, not good recording quality but has some rare favourites like To Go Off And Things (later covered by Napalm Death). If you want to go REALLY far back there's also Toy World but that was recorded with a potato.

Mike Vennart always brings up Cardiacs as his favourite band.
For some reason, i can't really say i like the few songs that i heard on Spotify. Also i can't really find any similarities to Oceansize's music (though many people say there are some)...

this lot seem like an even more wilfully annoying and far less pop orientated/conventional version of Everything Everything

this is a good thing
