"Arguably the simplest track on this list, Hum proves that Tigers Jaw doesn’t need to be complex with their songwriting in order to create a song that has immense replay value. Hum allows the listener to emulate the setting of a crisp, sunny Autumn Saturday in an suburb that is surrounded by dozen of maple trees that wane over the roadways with its blinding foliage, and the houses glow from jack-o-lanterns on the front porch just in time for Halloween. The listener views all of this from inside their home where the lights are dimmed, the heater buzzes loudly, Wheel of Fortune plays on a small flat-screen in the living room, cinnamon candles and pizza create a stagnant aroma, and the glow of the sun illuminates the house from the window. For the first time, we hear Brianna Collins independent in her vocal performance, presenting fans of what she is capable of doing: Luscious, innocent vocal melodies, and while Ben Walsh’s guitar performance is nothing mind-blowing, it’s the sentimental and nostalgic value of the thin, Springsteen-esque melodies that carries the song for the whole three and a half minutes."
^^^ some dumb shit i wrote in senior year when writing up a best of 2014 list, i got pretty passionate about it lol

Beautiful description, though. I mean, I'm not American and so little of those details resonate with me, but it still evokes the feeling well. :] End of Charmer is the best; Adam's vocals on that track are incredible. I prefer the self-titled, but this album has most of their catchier refrains.

This is my favorite TJ album, and I feel it's super underappreciated. Anyone else got love for this LP?

Yes! It's this or the self-titled for me; I like the sound/songwriting on this one more, but I think the self-titled is a tad more consistent -- this has a couple of weak links IMO. Cool is one of the best openers ever. And the closer on this is stuck in my head most days.

I'm actually listening to the closer right now hahaha, I wish they would've written more songs like that. And this one just barelyyyyyy beats out the S/T for 1st place, Charmer just resonates a lot more with me.

This one's a lot darker, I think, and the contrast between Adam's songwriting and Ben/Brianna's is perfect. And yeah, would've been great if they had -- I actually kinda think 'Window' captures something similar, although is obviously void of Adam. Wicca Phase kinda writes similar stuff, too, IMO, but the palette is very different. What are your favourites here? I'd probably say the title track, opener, and closer.

"Spin" took a little while to grow on me, and now I'm very fond of it. I think what you said is the reason I like this album so much, it IS a little darker, more mature. Although I appreciate what Adam did in TJ, I was never a big fan of his, and I don't really dig Wicca Phase at all. I was always bothered by the fact that he could barely sing his own parts during live performances, but I digress, not thatttttt big of a deal, I'm just a nit-picker lol. But as for my favorite songs of this, it would have to be:
1. Charmer
2. Nervous Kids
3. Slow Come On
4. What Would You Do?
5. Softspoken
