There was experimentation on MTM? I must've missed it under the corniness of Hands Held High, the snoozefest that is In Between, and the Hybrid Theory B-side that is Bleed It Out.
ATS combines more influences and varied sounds in one album than all their other records combined.

Bleed It Out shares the same exact song structure as pretty much every song on HT. Rapped verses, aggressively sung chorus, screamed bridge... all happening in 3 minutes or less.
Also, the "Amen" chorus on Hands Held High is cringe worthy and completely ruins the song.

This is their tightest and most consistent album by far. Only Meteora comes anywhere close in terms of overall songwriting. This is probably the last truly great (in terms of how it defined a generation of teenagers) mainstream rock record.
