"we need to write a song that can be played at a club – bam, here’s ‘Apologize.’"
just noticed this and it doesn't really make sense. i don't think onerepublic was expecting to make a hit when they first wrote apologize. i'm not even sure their version charted, but in any case their version is hardly danceable. the timbaland version serves your point better but i wouldn't say the band wrote the song knowing that timbaland would remix it

Yeah I'm not sure who would dance to Apologise

they played timbaland's version at my 8th grade graduation dance in 2008 lol.

Yeah I see your point toxin, I might be better served changing it to timbaland or just removing the reference altogether.

one time I went to this party and someone put on the pokemon theme and everyone started dancing to it and I was like no I'm not doing this and left

and here I was thinking I was the only person secretly putting this on my albums-of-the-year list. fantastic review: much like the album, everything flows wonderfully and it packs in a lot of info without ever getting obtuse/oblique.
"Light It Up" is my jam, though...it works for me and I can't place why (though I think it has to do with how gritty it sounds--something I've never ever heard OneRepublic do).

'one time I went to this party and someone put on the pokemon theme and everyone started dancing to it and I was like no I'm not doing this and left'
Oh hey this was me in my first and second year at uni except for the fact I didn't leave and was embarrased about my friends

This is easily the best album of the year so far.

I wouldn't go that far. It's definitely one of my most-enjoyed albums of 2013, but there are certainly better ones out there.

"wouldn't 3.2 round to 3.0?"
I generally round upwards. If something feels better than a 3, it gets a 3.5. Maybe that's mathematically stupid, but I hate math anyway.

Well if you hate them and their style of music then this obviously won't be a 4.1 for you

I feel as though the 29-year-old version of myself is going to look back at my current self and question why I liked this, just as I question why my 19- and 21-year-old selves liked the previous two albums.
That made sense. Maybe.

You'll always look back and question; the important thing is whether or not you enjoy it now.

I like this. I like this a lot. But oddly, I don't like this because it's another OneRepublic album. I like it for the fact it doesn't quite sound like OneRepublic.
This will sound ridiculously odd, but I hear touches of several other artists and groups in this album. I hear Mackelmore's more soulful songs (e.g. "Same Love"), some of Sara Bareilles's newer material ("Brave"), some newer Justin Timberlake ("Mirrors") and bits of Imagine Dragons, which I admit is a bit of a recursive observation.

Is anyone else reminded of "The Escapist" by Coldplay when listening to "Don't Look Down"?
