I've actually always considered them to be fairly underrated. All the "trve" metalheads tend to hate them simply because their first few albums had core elements

hmmm after a couple listens it's hard to pick out any memorable tracks

map of scars was sweet, but other than that the album just flew by. where are the deskmask divines, flies, apexs, funeral thirsts and contagions damnit

i felt like that too, albeit, that the songs were all of a really good standard but none of them really shone that much brighter than the others. but yeah Map is sweet

After spinning the record 5 times, I'm still dumbfounded as to whether this is an improvement, regression or stagnation. A really odd record. One thing is for sure, I bloody miss Shannon Lucas.

Shannon's drumming was a pretty big keystone in BDM's lineup, but I find that Alan's technique fits in perfectly and is no better or worse overall. His sound can be a bit off at times (in my opinion) such as the toms at the beginning of Raped in Hatred by Vines of Thorn... they kind of sound like toys to me when they aren't mitigated by the snare. It's only really prevalent on the very first fill. Regardless, as far as general skill level and br00tal blast beats goes, it's solid.

you can rate them the same, just need to make sure that if anyone asks you say one is better, or adjust your rating system so that one is 4, the other 4.5

This album contains The Evil Dead references so it's probably a 5
