That's a good description of what I wanted out of this, a balance between both extremes. That's sick though, when's the next volume due?

A Still Light Sun was pretty cool, but aside from that, nothing really jumped out at me at all. I can see what you meant by their new direction, but unfortunately, for me, the ambient moments end up coming off as directionless, rather than contributing to an atmosphere. The second part of Formless Memories was alright too.
Review was good though, have a pos. I may not be a fan of this, but I'm interested to see where Cyanotic go next.

I didn't enjoy the second part of "Formless Memories" as the horns from the first section were absent.
Glad you saw what I meant even though this didn't strike you the same way!

Haha now see I didn't like the first part cause I thought that the horns felt out of place.
Yeah, absolutely. Plus, even though I didn't care for this, I still think this could be bringing them in a much more interesting direction.

I am interested in how the other 'packs sound, I want the guitars back; this was a nice break from their normal but I really hope this isn't their entire new direction.

I agree that the guitars do need to come back. Way I see it, their efforts with heavy guitars bored me, and this felt a little too wandering, so if they could find the even balance of the two elements, they'd probably make something worthwhile.

I can see that, we'll have to wait and see!

Curious how these guys will sound live, they're supporting FLA on their upcoming tour, and I'm thinking about checking it out.

I'd love to see them, sadly not coming to close to where I'm at.

@MisterSteel: Are you sure you didn't just read about the 2011 Cyanotic/FLA tour? I follow both bands on Facebook and I haven't seen anything about a repeat tour this year.

Good call, apparently I'm blind. :P
Edit: And now that I think about it, quite disappointed.

The band's using donations from this release for a Glitchmode Recordings tour, meaning Cyanotic and Rabbit Junk - I need to donate :P

thanks for all the comments, guys (and probably a few girls). it was a really pleasant experience putting together this collection of tracks over a very rainy week in early January. it's our sci-fi soundtrack style EP and I am really glad the writer was perceptive to pick up on the Blade Runner homages with the trumpets in "Formless Memories [part1]".
the styles I was experimenting with on Vol 1 were much more in the vein of songs from our earlier albums like "Higher States of Consciousness" and its counterpart on the Transhuman albums, and "Comadose" from The Medication Generation album, which appears in a very different form on MedPack Vol 1, as "Hibernol". both are references to that old SNL skit with Chris Farley. the drug that knocks you out for flu season was Hibernol and it was from the makers of Comadose. haha. just so you know!
MedPack Vol 2 is well underway and is much heavier AND much more danceable. so expect a lot of different experimentation with the MedPack volumes, which will be collecting onto a physical album soon.

Hmm, this is actually alright. I'm liking how it's more industrial and less other things.

I especially like the two Formless Memories songs. I still listen to them sometimes. Nice atmosphere that inspires my imagination. A Still Light Sun is also good.
