i have to say i thought it was mediocre at first too, until i gave it a proper re-listen a month or two ago, then it turned into a seriously enjoyable pop album

This album is like the more political, outspoken, straightforward, extroverted brother of The National's Alligator. It's like it's articulating all the things Berninger can only put across through subtle imagery.

I don't know... I love both albums obviously... but comparing the two is a pretty big stretch

In the sense that it's about not knowing where you fit, trying to find ways to live that don't lead to being miserable, and being really uncertain.
Basically they're both about me but different sides of me.
Don't get me wrong, the records are pretty much polar opposites, but they just seem to be getting at the same things to me. Alligator doesn't so much say it as prove it; Turner is far more of a speech-writing lyricist.
