actually never mind after the first three songs, which are easily among Katatonia's best, it feels like they kinda stopped trying.

Please tell me you're not listening to the shitty leak and judging it from that...

Well it is the shitty leak but I don't see how in the same leak the first 3 songs can be so much better than the rest.

The Longest Years might be the band's best song to date honestly.

Bodom get rid of the shitty leak and get the proper one. First 3 tracks are awesome but Liberation, Nephilim and the last 2 tracks are also boss.

Excellent review Willie. Currently on track four and it doesn't seem to be the TGCD part 2 that many people were fearing it would be. Even tough "Idle Blood" sounds like it is related to Opeth's catalog, I wonder if Opeth could make the song as interesting as Katatonia have done.

Fine album. Anyone know who's guesting on Departer? His vocals really suit the music and are a pretty welcome break from the monotous droning that Jonas can be at times.

as Willie mentioned on the first page of the thread, guest vocals on Departer are by Krister Linder courtesy of Enter the Hunt.

Great review Willie (though I await to hear to fireaboves opinion on this album as well). Going to be buying this on Tuesday.

@alsid: I don't see how you can think this is the worst in years

But it's just the way it is. I can't really explain what happened to them, but I didn't like this album at all.

I'd suggest giving it a few more listens. It seems to be growing on a lot of people (I liked it instantly, though).

Maybe some time in the past, but I don't think they could write something as good as "Idle Blood" these days.
Great review Willie (though I await to hear to fireaboves opinion on this album as well).
Ha ha, the way things have been going lately with his string of negative reviews, I'm kind of scared to see how he feels about this ;)

opeth's music has no relevance to this band why do people keep comparing them

"Idle Blood" could be an Opeth (or Porcupine Tree) song... it's near-impossible to deny it.

sounds more like red house painters mixed with katatonia, but even if people see that with this song, the band only has 8 other records, and the two bands are always being compared before idle blood came out

I can't comment on that Red House Painters thing because I've never heard them. I also agree that, generally speaking, Katatonia should never be compared to Opeth because they've never really been similar.

Off topic, I just found the best industrial metal album to be released this year (and it's free). I've only listened to it once (Just got it this morning), but I love it. Check it out if you have time...
