yeah it's hard to find a legit criticism for the production. the rapping is top notch but i do understand why some dont like him

i mean i dont have a "legit criticism" for the production other than i dont like the way it sounds

ok i'll just do that in my reviews from now on. especially on stuff that is regarded innovative and excellent by most critics.

so does that mean i am wrong

am i wrong for not liking it

are you one of those people who thinks music is objective

i mean you just used the "yeah well critics think it is good" argument i mean like what is that

I see some miscommunication. I don't think kingsoby is being as confrontational as robertsona is thinking

basically what im saying is that "this sounds bad" is just as good reasoning as any--i play it and
it does not sound good to my ears and i do not want to listen to it. i know that is difficult to
cope with because theres nothing you can really argue there but sorry. i dont really know
where the source of my dislike is other than it doesnt sound good, but i dont think i really
need to before i can "properly dislike it" or whatever it is youre implying

but what really got me is that you had to use that "but critics think this" argument. yeah, so? what
does it matter if 100% of critics ever think it is amazing, or 100% of critics think it is shit?
doesnt make my opinion any less valid

well, what it actually means is that you probably don't understand it as a listener. I mean yeah, I guess music should automatically appeal to you, but I wouldnt have liked this at all when i was 16 to be honest.

what you are saying in reference to progressive hip-hop is akin to saying The Black Saint and the Sinner Lady sucks. both records are classics in their genres. if you don't understand jazz, yeah, you might think mingus is retarded.

edit: yep el is incredible live

so if i dont like it and dont have some reason for it it means i dont understand it

also what am i saying "in reference to progressive hip-hop"--because i dont like this, i dont
understand "progressive hip-hop"? i mean i like stuff like cLOUDDEAD which i think fits under that
label

i don't think i "don't understand" el-p, i just don't like him. but it's easy for you to categorize
people that disagree with you as people who "don't understand", right?

on another note black saint is one of my fav albums

cloudead is okay.

i am not categorizing anything; i am telling you that, just like black saint to jazz, this is a musical piece of art for progressive hiphop

well yeah all albums are musical pieces of art :P

but, for reals, yeah sure it's a "musical piece of art", it's just one i dont happen to like

i just feel like youre weirdly saying "well you dont understand it" sort of baselessly just because i
dont like soemthing you happen to like. but maybe i am misinterpreting....that being said i dont even
have anything against this album (although ive been arguing as if i do)--just in general ive been
listening to his production and a few songs and it just doesnt sit well with me

robertsona, i thnk you might like his production and rapping on I'll Sleep When You're Dead". it's a lot cleaner and polished, and it sounds more industrial and spacey. plus his rapping is better

El-P can do no wrong in my opinion. The dude is just full of great ideas. From Company Flow and Cannibal Ox to Emergency Rations and I Phantom to all his solo work, I wish I could produce like he does
