Great review. I'm sure ive seen this album at the store, i've gotta get it. I love illadelph Haflife and Things Fall Apart, two of the greatest hip hop albums ever. Been getting into The Roots more then ever lately, possibly the second greatest hip hop group after Wu Tang or maybe third after Public Enemy

Long Time is just a fucking heart stopping song. [2]

this is a bit of a lost classic isn't it? tends to get highly rated but never talked about in the same breath as other classic hip hop albums, of which it is undoubtedly one

Things Fall Apart is amazing and all, but this is easily my favorite Roots album.

The Dilla tribute is wrenching.
This came out half a decade before Undun and (personally) I find this to be fresher. Maybe I should give Undun another spin.
The Roots (to me) also have the tendency of being too abrasive with their pop-ness. Like on Do You Want More (excellent album, regardless) and Undun the hooks and choruses seem too forced. Whereas with this and TFA the hooks blend better with the verses, making it overall feel more natural.

Been poking around these guys' discog for a few months and I think this might be the one, loaded with bangers and has a great sense of urgency
