Really, really great review. I was in Europe so I haven't been able to pick this up yet, but I'm really looking forward to it. I can only imagine how pissed half their fanbase got when they played Conan.

I was happy that they played Conan. They looked like they were having a great time, too.

The Live At The Key Club DVD that comes with this is pretty solid too.

Solid album, consistant throughout.

I recommend it.

Man, Walking is Still Honest on the live DVD that came with it is so fucking intense. The number of people from the crowd on stage outnumbers everyone else on it like at least 2 to 1.

And sam, rating this lower than Kings of Leon is a glorious testimony to your stupidity. Just saying.

Whoever called this radio rock hit the nail perfectly. I can't even listen to this stuff. SAD is all that should be said.

Staff reviewers have this weird tendency to race to review an album without hearing it. Note: this review went into no detail about a specific track. You knew one song had a girl from another band... this is not an intricacy picked up by listening to it several times.

This is frustrating that we have another review that only cares about the review and not music.

What the fuck are you talking about? I'm not supposed to describe it to a tee...I'm supposed to outline it and conclude whether it's good or bad.

Hey, slow down... don't get so upset.

I don't mind if you outline it but you presented no information that a person looking
to see if they want to buy the CD would not have heard in general. Read the reviews
by allmusic or pitchfork and you'll see the insight that's necessary because that's what
reviews are for.
If you just put a bunch of generalities that's like a salesman saying: yeah, buy this car
cause you'll like it and it's fast and it's really nice and you won't regret it.
You're very well spoken but you need to consider what information in a review is
underrepresented. This Message Edited On 12.29.07

Did you skip this paragraph:

New Wave's common-most lyrical theme is the banality of the modern mainstream, a topic explored right from the get go, as the title track boldly states the distance between the industry and the fans, all the while fighting for change –a chance. Frankly, I would be more than happy to hear this on the radio instead of the post-grunge donkey-rock drivel that pollutes the airwaves now. "Stop!" is the "Mutiny on the Electronic Bay" of the album, meaning it's short, danceable and to the point, but not all that impressive. "Up The Cuts", a mid-paced hook-laden track, has the group attacking the monotonous side of the modern mainstream, asking "are you restless like me?" Leadoff single "White People For Peace" is one of the stronger folk-less Against Me! tracks and "Americans Abroad" is a solid track, but I liked it better when it was the Buzzcocks' "Ballroom Blitz".

And you just cited Pitchfork. So I know you're a joke. Pitchfork are the kings of saying absolutely nothing. It's either a video of a monkey pissing in its mouth or a pretentious blathering of adjectives and metaphors that mean nothing to anyone but the person who wrote it.This Message Edited On 12.29.07

I agree about that pitchfork comment but they are good at giving a pretentious view on pop culture and that paragraph is substantial but I wish I could better explain to you how little detail that is relative to how large this review happens to be.

Comments like: "has the group attacking the monotonous side of the modern mainstream", "one of the stronger folk-less", and "is a solid track" in no way act as evidence to your point... just more points. This is basic, you make points and you should enact knowledge to prove them... not just weave a giant opinion. I like what you do, I think your opinions are excellent but please don't start acting inappropriately enough that could result in a suspension for a non-staff reviewer. You don't know who I am and thus should think twice about what you write online about me.
Thank you.

And what have I written about you? Okay, I said "I know you're a joke," but that was in reference to your ridiculous assertion that I should be like Pitchfork. It wasn't an attack of your character. Let me rephrase: You're joking or you're a gimmick. I was tongue-in-cheek. And could you explain the suspension for a non-staff reviewer? I didn't know if that was a misconstrued threat or what.

I wrote the review in the most relevant context. Against Me! are entirely dependent on their fanbase so I took it from two standpoints: that of a fan, and that of an objective reviewer. I make the implication that "folk-less" refers to the lack of the earlier-mentioned folk influence, so your observation is seemingly a fault of your own comprehension (or lack-thereof).

I didn't set out to analyze each track. I took it as a whole. We had two reviews and handled it in our own wayThis Message Edited On 12.29.07

"I didn't set out to analyze each track. I took it as a whole. We had two reviews and handled it in our own way."

...and I chose to state that the way you went about your review was less than perfect. Next time let's try to set out and talk objectively... this achieved very little.

I said "don't start acting inappropriately..."

Never said he was... I just didn't want it to get there over something lame like name calling. It's over.

I don't care about the actual argument, I just think it's funny that brandt looks twelve years old in his avatar.

" New Wave faces the question of why an album has to sound like shit to get the point across. "

THIS so much! I love the production on this album, it sounds brilliant. Having said that, it's not the best album ever and I still have to hear their other stuff. but a solid 3.5 sounds about right.

Hey guys! I thought to share this interview from ShockHound.com of Tom from Against Me! He talks about upcoming music, touring, Jay Weinberg joining the band, breaking-up with Sire Records/Warner and rolling with the changes. Pretty rad…
