hard to choose which band does this style best, Insomnium, In Flames or Dark Tranquillity but i think this band takes the cake if only by a narrow margin

I find all three to be extremely different and I'm sure many would agree. These guys take a darker, more doom-influenced approach.

Always have had DT as my favorite melodic death band but these guys are a very close second

but maybe not as this band is relatively new to me and dt and in flames have been with me for something like a decade

This is pretty sweet. Shades of Deep Green and the title track are def 2 standouts here.

I also get a much bigger DT/IF vibe on this than I do on the 2 albums that followed.

Really digging this so far aside from, again, the production. It's definitely produced way better than Shadows and One For Sorrow, though.

It's a killer debut for sure. The same melancholic atmosphere they've carried with them throughout all of their albums is present on here, which leads me to believe they always had a good idea of what sound they were striving for. I've always loved that "breakdown" at the end of Song of the Storm too. The whole ending of that song is awesome. There are some really great songs on here throughout.
