"Untitled (aka The Penny Arcade in California) is great, for some reason it's one of my favorites even though it's totally pointless."
No way, it acts as a perfect transition. I understand why some people are not really fond of this but to me this album's magic to me.

I should have clarified that I meant pointless on its own, yeah in context it's great but on its own there's no need for it to exist as a song.

Well you should. They are as important a part of a musical experience as instrumentals. You can't accurately appreciate or rate an album with lyrics without considering its lyrics.

i kinda agree and disagree
i can still love a record with awful lyrics
i can still hate a record with great lyrics
but denying that lyrics form a huge part of one's musical experience listening to an album is stupid

That's your opinion and I respect it, but the thing is that ratings are subjective and in my personal case lyrics are not relevant when I'm rating an album. If the music is bad lyrics are not going to do anything to save an album, sure I enjoy many lyrics, but I don't care that much about them.

I can love an album with bad lyrics as well, but I will never love it as much as one that is musically comparable (even weaker) but with better lyrics.

I think that they can add a lot if the music is excellent though, for example opeth. But as Sinternet says:
"I can still love a record with awful lyrics, I can still hate a record with great lyrics" for me is not relevant.

But you literally can't judge the work without judging the whole of the work, and if the work has lyrics they're part of the work.
It would sound ridiculous if I said I don't care for guitar playing in general but listen to guitar-centric music. It is no less ridiculous to say that you don't care about the lyrics if most of what you listen to has lyrics.

also the lyrics have no impact on how i feel about this. the ones i can discern are pretty cringeworthy and detract from the music. definitely not the strongest point of this album.

In my opinion it is less "ridiculous" to say I don't care about lyrics, and if they are so important at the time of giving a rating, the maybe they would represent a 0.5 over the whole thing.
What I do find ridiculous is that you say "You can't accurately appreciate or rate an album with lyrics without considering its lyrics." that's completely exaggerated.

@TheBoneyKing Everyone has different dynamics when it comes to rating an album, that's why music is subjective, everyone's perception about a given work varies depending of how the person thinks. Maybe you are a "lyrics" person, I'm more of a "musical" person and that's my main focus when I rate an album not the lyrics and how well written they are.
The thing that bothers me is that you are stating that a rating without considering the lyrics its not accurate as if it was a rule or a law.
