That's pretty accurate. I know some people complain about the length but honestly this album never bores me. The main obstacle is me having enough free time to hear it all at once, not the music itself.

this is an amazing album. definitely feels like i need like 5-6 more listens to properly digest it
probably top 10 of the year though

this is honestly so good, it might just sneak into my top 5

It's deserving tbh. I kept wanting to put other albums ahead of this for my AOTY but every time I returned to it to make sure I was doing the right thing, its place as my #1 only became further solidified.

Why did this guy name himself "I am a dog" in Italian?

because it's ambiguous and oblique and morphologically unsettling with no spaces and probably corresponds to how his "lyrics" and delivery are full of linguistic distortion
|

That sounds pretentious as fuck
But I liked the SotD that was chosen from this so I may check this anyway

it's just a bunch of slurred and distorted sounds from familiar languages used as a natural fit to the music
not sure if it even qualifies as a chaos language or whatever; if marginally unorthodox voicings and deleted spaces qualify as pretentious, then all your favourite artists are stooges

the dude's vocals are great. they have a very healthy amount of variation and range that help them to hold their own throughout the runtime. compared to his previous album he really goes all out here

still think this opener is absolutely perfect, the arrangement is all western softboi indie but that comp is Yuki Kajiura level chills. relatively simple ig but so good
most of the rest gets murky and it's hard to pick highlights, but it's cogent murk and i let it swallow

funny enough, the opener I find pretty basic and for me things really heat up on 'ashes'

Ashes' bookend sections are ace, but the Super Dark part (along with most of em aside from Prison tbh) doesn't quite live up to the horror imo. This record is fantastic at its most foreboding, but the full-on spook tends to be a bit weaker mmm

there's a deft balance between beauty and horror, but I agree he never fully steers into the latter - it's more like a shadow in the corner that's always there

Mmm for the most part, he is a shrewd boi
Made my sis a catchup playlist of listenable stuff from this year and will probs throw together a fury of everything else for my brother; this is the only alb I expect to make both lists (acc mayb Texis but ssh)

yeah, it's amazing the crossover appeal this one has. if I were to overgeneralize, it's mostly just really weird pop ig?

"Why did this guy name himself "I am a dog" in Italian?"
Multiple reasons: 1. inspired by "Io sono uno" (=I am one) by Luigi Tenco; 2. His real surname is "Incani" (cani=dogs); 3. An old song he did, where he talked about somebody as "the son of a dog".
