I thought Shadow of the Abattoir was a guest vocal it’s that much better than normal Heafy.
Haven’t liked a Trivium album since In Waves and I used to be a major fanboy being about 14 when Ascendancy came out.

For me the new album makes them a legit kickass metal band through and through again, when before they were treading the line of heavy mainstream gateway band with great highlights forever. WTDMS was solid but seemed a little insubstantial and didn't quite have the energy I'd ideally like. The new one is amazing. People who though the title track might easily be the best song on a middling album....turns out most of the record is just as high speed and fast. You keep thinking the heavy part will make a cameo and then leave but they just keep going. Hell yea. And those drums.... Holy cow

Yeah, I like how they set a high tempo with the first track and then just keep going without compromise.

Even the songs that are more reliant on Matt's cleans (Feast of Fire, Now Way Back Just Through) keep the energy and tempo up to a surprising degree... which was imo the biggest flaw of the last two albums. Songs like "Endless Nights" and "Bleed into Me" just took the winds out those albums' sails... aint none of that shit on the new one.

I was 100% expecting from dawn to decadence to be some bullshit slow radio track based on the intro, and then........

I admit I'm hyped now.

Court of the dragon was great, feast of fire good and phalanx meh.

Based on first listen, I think Ascendancy is the new album's only competition in terms of their best album.

I think it's a much better front-to-back listen than Shogun, mostly due to it being 15 minutes shorter.

more hyper-processed metalcore with more bad vocal-oriented mixing and a mishandling of verse-to-chorus transitions. wooooo

The t/t still goes hard. Idk why they're not playing it live. Beats the shit out of Catastrophist that's for sure.
