After listening to the t/t above, it's identifiably Opeth even though not stylistically metal.

It has that loud-then-soft structure that is in many of their songs and if Opeth wasn't wholly a metal band starting off, this would probably be a neat follow up to Still Life. But this is based on the t/t alone.

If the album was based around songs like the t/t then I'd probably 1.5 this or something.

I'm just glad they didn't play it safe.

I need to give it another spin, I wasn't a fan of like 2 tracks the first time around.

I don't think it's that bad, but ya their past work makes me scratch my head that this is the same band.

The album as a whole is incredibly different, even for Heritage/PC era Opeth. I'm digging the experimentation on this album, I wish there would be more of it.

Don't know what to say about the album yet. I like it but at the same time I wish they went back to a heavier sound.

A Fleeting Glance drains all energy from me. So grateful there's a riff in there or I would be dead now.

I like the funk at the end of Spring MCMLXXIV bonus track. I'd happily listen to an album of that.

This could be like a 4 if weren't for certain aspects of the production. Did some adjustments with the extremely quiet sections. One could easily raise the volume in audio editing programs without it clipping, so quiet in fact.

Production really drags this down imo... They totally fcked it up, almost unlistenable in parts. Such a shame. I hope so hard the vinyl version will be better.
