Ocean Machine has always been one of my favorites. If it's better than this, it can't be by that much. I was lucky enough to see SYL back in 06 before they split. He had that crazy fucking mullet, yelling all sorts of insane shit at the audience. He was pretty damn entertaining, but for his own health he should stay on the meds. I didn't know much of anything about his solo career until SYY wasn't even a thing anymore. I would go as far and say he's done greater things outside of SYL.

I'd say SYL is by far his best work. Alien and City are some of the best metal albums I've ever heard. I'd then say CoC is second. I'm just not a big fan of DTP stuff I guess.

Yeah, I wouldn't disagree with you there City and Alien are some of my favorite metal albums as well. I do miss SYL as well, but it is what it is. Have you tried Deconstruction? It's probably the closest he's gotten to sounding like SYL aside Physicist.

listened to Deconstruction once but wasn't really paying attention to it. Will give it a spin later.

I don't think he's on meds anymore? He said after he stopped smoking and drinking his bipolar episodes basically went away, so he might've been misdiagnosed all those years ago.

Yeah, there's an interview with him basically saying he was never really sure whether or not he actually suffered from bipolar related illness. I mean, drinking and smoking can go hand and hand with Bipolar, but for his episodes to completely disappear afterwards seems unbelievable to me. Who knows?

If you love SYL I see how his other stuff might not appeal. But really, if you love SYL you will find things to love in all his work. This one, while not really heavy, is kind of just like City seen through a really mellowing filter. And Accelerated Evolution is, I think, the most well executed album of his entire body of work. That also has some heavy moments as well as some of the poppy crossover stuff that is just so fucking cool.
