I get the parallels but Turn On The Bright Lights is just more punchy and its lyrics don't feel like a blank slate: They feel personal and unique to the songwriter.

I mean I get he lyrics on this can be a little bit of a caricature at times, more so a canvas to paint yourself onto than deeply personal lyrics, and it urks me too but I don't know .. I'd say the National is quite a bit better than Interpol(whose lyrics aren't that original in the first place). Interpol just feels like imitators to me.

Turn On The Bright Lights was one of the first albums that really turned me unto a lot of the music I listen to now, so it's a very personal 5 (Like all of my 5s) But the performances on TOTBL just feel more passionate and energetic, plus the production is KILLER.
