i think i said this, but this album only sounds good to me when i'm stoned. great smoking album for some reason. sober though, it sounds really sloppy. "curse the flesh" is def on my smoking playlist, the dual guitar tracks sound awesome stoned.

The opening track remains my favorite. It's just a speedy, fun journey through a riff amusement park! Stricken Arise and Curse the Flesh are up there also. I really love that super repetitive drum section in Stricken.

Coming from Suffocation's Breeding the Spawn and this album is far from the worse metal production ever. Besides that and the extra tracks, this is a very very good DM album. 4.0 for me now.

just grabbed this on wax recently, honestly a pretty great record. no idea why anyone hates it other than the non-metal tracks, which arent even that bad.

Band kind of died after Covenant tbh, but yeah this is not that bad.

Wait what? Are you serious mechamagica? Three first albums are pinnacle death metal. Altars of Madness may very well be the best death metal of all times actually. (I personally can't decide between Close to a World Below and AoM)

i like them both for different reasons. first three are classic death metal but formulas onward is weirdo stuff and I like weirdo stuff.
my least favorite has always been domination.
