Culture Scars is good. No bad, not amazing, good. The songs go for an emo lean more so than their other releases, which is where a lot of people find the beauty of it (and by no coincidence is it often highly rated/quoted by fans), but for me the pacing is off and the energy dips pretty low at times.

It's not what I want out of a HtS album, and in all honesty I don't think it's what they excel at. Their emotional beats are best presented when in the midst of delicious instrumental turbulence or a fleeting gasp for breath ("Relax/Divide" for instance).

No qualms about calling it their weakest effort, but I'd still listen to it/some choice cuts. Give me Mental Knife over it every day of the week though.

Burn Nice and Slow is an absolute all timer

I agree the energy on it is lesser, but it’s their best attempts at doing so imho. Whenever they do slower stuff on other albums it falls flat to me. Closer on CS is also incredibly well done.

To me it makes the highs really hit

Entertainment Lies is their catchiest riff and one of their best hooks. their best pop track (with 60 mins, 1109, and then Burn Nice and Slow following)

closer is perfect. Never Kill A Mouse is their best ballad (that predates the band i believe). then you have deep cuts like Ministry of Truth and The People That Protect Us that are so dynamic. can and will gush about it forever and hey, glad you're with me nash!!

Hanging is my favorite chorus here, but it's close, because they're almost all stupid good.

True, there are so many hooks here. Chunker and 60-Minute Second Blocks are probably the best here but Hanging is very close behind.

I'd call Session Blocks the best overall, yeah.
