Trap is just part of hip hops evolution, rap from late 80’s/early 90’s was about ‘the best lyricist is king’ whereas today these artists don’t view lyrics as the be all, end all, so it’s interesting how things have changed
I just think the arguments about what makes an artist a ‘legitimate rapper’ are silly. Hardcore Hip-Hop (East Coast) artists and fans use to criticize G-Funk from the West for being not being lyrical enough, just rapping about partying and drugs, etc. But today we look at that as like some a type of golden era that still has influence today.
