I can't handle much more than a single Schmalt at a time, so this album's a bit much for me

I think it got too overly-sincere, leading to some awkward lyricism and the choruses didn't have a bunch because of it. It's also a bit more subdued/not quite as fast-paced as this can be.

think what's so frustrating about it to me (and is probably only frustrating if you care about like theory and shit so this criticism is probably not something a lot of ppl care about lol) is how hard it is for the songs to differentiate themselves when they're allll in the same key (7 of the 10 songs here are in d flat maj and the ones that aren't which are all in e flat were ALL OF THE FUCKING SINGLES) and are all going for the same kind of big chorus so there's not an ounce of diversity on the album which makes it so boring to me at points

i agree BUT the DbMaj into that bigass chorus alllllllllways works for them

it definitely has moments where it does. generation loss is my favorite of those songs that they've ever done and it's chorus fucking HITS when it comes in, but it coming right after self destruction makes self destruction feel really redundant bc its chorus isnt even close to being as good. or how the reprise of all the vocal melodies on the t/t instead of being a big emotional payoff just kinda proves the point to me that the vocal melodies are super interchangeable

this one is definitely more varied and dynamic than brave faces, but both are stellar

Yeah, I definitely got the formulaic feel off of that album. Sound and structure-wise, it seemed to play things too by-the-numbers.

I don't disagree with any of you but BFE is still the better album for me lol

I'l tell you why I prefer Brave Faces Everyone over Schmaltz.
Schmaltz's themes delve more on suicide / death, which thank fuck are experiences that only resonate with me from a distance.
The lyrics of Brave Faces are more of a commentary of the broken social elevator, and coming to terms with how all that makes you feel about life. It's more about disenchantment with the status of the world and the internal turmoil it makes you feel rather than just having "the blues"
