S/T is my favourite - the retro pastiche/genre exercises on the new one don’t play to her strengths at all

Reverential retro can work well but if you’re going to do it then it needs to be at least as good as the last Weyes Blood album

Flaming aside, my legitimate assessment: there's been a cold distance to her work since the S/T and the new album is her most arch and held-at-arms-length yet even tho it's been billed as a personal work for her. Musically and vocally, she went for daring experimentation and instead ended up with a shrilly atonal jumble of tropes that hold no life of their own. There's The Prince Song, The Pink Floyd song, The Cream Song, etc. Yes okay that's nice, where are the St. Vincent songs tho?

Anyone find the sitar in the new album bafflingly out of place?

Ok it's official, the new one is definitely my favorite out of the three St. Vincent albums I've heard

"Ripoff" is such a dumb fucking term in the music industry unless it LITERALLY rips off

i've never heard a St Vincent album and the title of the new one is really bad and the cover is just horrendous beyond description but the album itself isn't bad so far

Y'all are wildly jumping through hoops to find a reason to invalidate people who don't like it lmao, like it's a bit ridiculous

Yes the reason I don't like it is because she's a woman and because it's the only indie pop (which it ABSOLUTELY isn't lmao?) album that has ever been derivative
