Maybe I've been a bit too harsh on the t/t. From about 12 min. till the end it's not bad. But I enjoy Nightmare more as a whole, somehow it feels more complete to me. Both are far from being their best works/epics though.

Honestly I like the solos the most now because there's no Labrie singing/lyrics and I can pretend I'm listening to old school DT, because honestly, their music has barely changed since the 90's, it's just more polished and self aware and bland

Yeah, I agree, but I think I'm just going off highly technical music. They should do a Sigur Ros and do a dark album like Kveikur, which Ruddess doing some menacing electronics

Choccy that would require some kind of subtly and restraint that this band clearly has none of.

That part in Nightmare is the best thing DT have done in over 10 years.

I listen to stuff from ToT every now and then. Yeah, you're right. They're not exactly modest in their playing. Oh well.
We have Opeth to look forward to at least! Rejammed Watershed yesterday and Porcelain Heart and Hex Omega are no where near as bad as I originally made them out to be

Yeah, but it's a shame the second half of Nightmare loses its steam and lets what could have been a great song down

All starts going downhill when Portnoy comes in with those 'harsh' vocals...

That's also probably the best album they've done since 6Deg, but TOT and Octavarium are good
candidates too

I'm constantly changing my opinion on ADTOE, because for all that it fails in, I could see myself listening to it now more than any of their others. There's just something about it that's comforting and predicable and inviting

ADTOE isn't that bad. It's consistent and songs have good ideas (except Build me Up) but typically fall short

Oucry is really enjoyable but meandering, Lost Not Forgotten has some dumb parts but also some great parts, and On the Backs of Angels, Bridges in the Sky, and Breaking All Illusions are amazing. Even this is the life is one of their better ballads in the last decade. In a lot of ways it's their best since 6Deg. BC&SL is too cheesy in some parts otherwise that'd probably rival it

Have you listened to Octavarium played by an orchestra? Interesting to say the least...
