Honestly wasn't huge on this one when it dropped and didn't come back to it many times at all until recently I started checking it out again and honestly it's been hitting way harder. Definitely like Direction more but this has some really cool shit on it and I appreciate them being a little more unhinged in some ways.
It's also lacking in the couple big open sections where Joe can really flex and shine that all the last few albums have had.
But yeah dying for some new Intronaut or at least word of what in to hell they're up to, last fb post I see is from February 2022 being like "so covid sucked huh? can't wait to start touring again and maybe play a couple new songs we're finishing up" then silence.

Still mulling over my rating but I think FEI has copped some unfair heat relative to their wider discography. It's definitely more of a guitar-driven release than their previous efforts, and it is a shame that Joe's bass has taken a bit of a backseat due to fewer atmospheric sections, but it still hits fucking hard. Alex is more rigid creature to he-who-shall-not-be-named, but his drumming is top tier shit.
I also think the vocals are going for an intentionally weird alien-from-the-deep aesthetic which I don't mind at all. They aren't the strongest singers so it's nice to see them lean into a caricature that works thematically.

I vastly preferred their vocals from Direction, they're at their best with soft but eerie clean vocal harmonies and dry screams. But everything else about this album kicks so much ass. Can't wait for more music from them.
