This album was part of the reason I listened to metalcore. I dug it when I was in high school but now I can't stand to listen to it anymore. However, I do credit it for getting me into other melodic metal bands like Death, Carcass and Children of BodomThis Message Edited On 06.21.07

hmm wonder if all the haters know that these guys are a Christian band? that must be why they're pickin', 'cuz AILD aren't that bad of a band. yes, they can be a little repetitive, but what band isn't on some level?

The entire album of Frances the Mute.
anyway, i really like this album a lot. It shows more death metal influences than AILD's later releases, and it has more raw energy that SAS and AOBU, even though it is somewhat repetetive at times.
Also, i would have to disagree with you on Behind Me Lies A Fallen Soldier and Song 10, they are by far the stand outs for me (next to Elegy that is).
I think this band gets a lot of hate because of their mainstream success. I dunno, i get a lot of bad vibes whenever i mention mainstream music from people on this site. This Message Edited On 10.23.07

This is a fun cd. I remember 10th grade when In played this in my w.t class at school, scaring most of the kids in the process.

that wasnt really even a review, it was a description. also beneath the encasing ashes is the greatest hardcore/metalcore album ever written.
also behind me lies another fallen soldier is meant to be slow, an album consiting of just ridiculously fast paced songs the entire way through would be shit.

94 Hours is a sick song and I liked it more than what I heard from Shadows Are Security. Is this album as good as 94 Hours?

Elegy is a fucking masterpiece.

I used to love this band when i first got into metal. Now i hate them for some reason. I guess Black Metal teaches you not to like Christian bands.

I love AILD. Some of the songs were very catchy. I liked this album pretty well.

Album has some amazing songs but to listen to as a whole is fairly boring ...the problem with most As I Lay Dying albums I believe.

Eh.

When I say amazing, I mean more along the lines of pretty good.

Na, the production might be a little thin but contains a lot of catchy songs. Undefined and Elegy also rule face.

Elegy and Forever rule quite a lot of face.

i wouldn't say this was generic when it came out, in the scheme of things now i suppose you could say that. I feel that these guys have their own thing going, but that thing has been copied alot. As a result i think they get unfairly poo'ed on.

Well, I really enjoy the album, so... I guess everyone is entitled to their opinions then.

i love how this album review is still getting comments. this album came out six years ago. but for the record, the guy who reviewed it couldn't tell a good song if it kicked him in the balls. Behind Me Lies Another Fallen Soldier is one of As I Lay Dying's best songs. To list that as a "con" of this album is just shameful. Come on man...every band has to have a slower song or two...and the riffs in Behind Me Lies are slower yes, but they're still good f-in riffs. seriously dude. Listen to some As I Lay Dying and then you can tell me what their best songs are.
