I kind of liked this when I first heard it, but when I put it on the other day, just to see if there was something I was missing I was stunned by how little I like it now. What Katie Did in particulay was honestly completely ghastly to me...the vocals on it genuinely sound painful.
Same here. I liked it initally (see my original post in this thread) but it just sounds disastrous when I listen to it now.

Iai I too think this album is not worth it's 5 mark but then again neither should it be classed as a 0.
The interplay between the vocalists is pure brilliance, and while it pales in comparison to Up the Bracket it is an album worthy of at least some respect.
PS> i do realise i have given it a 5 that was a mistake my real rating is 3.5 or 4 DOH!

I do love the Libertines.
This album is one of my favourties, and I completely agree with the review, apart from the bit about Doherty's vocals being off a bit:P Without that... well, it wouldn't be the same album I have grown to love.
I love the last track, and it is sad it reflects the state of the band at the time too.
Good review, brilliant album; buy it.

This CD makes me want to punch Pete Doherty (NME has the same effect). Now I know why I let it sit in the CD case for so long. The first two tracks are the only worth anything.
EDIT: and whats with indie pop? They're more of a punk/rock band right? This Message Edited On 10.22.06

I think I might review this.
There are some good songs on here, but it's nothing on Up The Bracket. It's probably worth a 2.5 or a 3 or something like that.

All the people who said that the Libertines were shit, need your heads examined, go and wank over the guillemots

Overhyped yes, but for every time they are dull and bland Indie Pop they pull out a song like You're My Waterloo(not on any album why?) or Music when the lights Go Out, Between the two albums you could probably scrape together 10 good songs, but I disagree that it would be the track listing of the best of, but hey, they are no Blur,Oasis or Arctic Monkeys but they still wrote some great songs, and are head and shoulders above the garbage that piggy backed off their success, though, that isn't saying much....

another great duo from our generation.

I wanted to like this band after seeing all of the good reviews. I saw a sloppy performance of "Albion" on Jools that still managed to pull me in even with all of the flaws (out of tune singing and instruments, sloppy playing in general). I found the rawness charming live but it doesn't seem to translate well in the studio.
and Pete really can't sing.... at all. I think I'll give it a few more chances before I dismiss it though. Maybe it grows on you.

"Because they try really, really hard to sound like The Clash."
I mean, I know it was 2004 but really?

The band certainly had something, but on the first album they had that intangible something along with songs. Here it's mainly just relying on their chemistry, without the tunes to back it up.
I like 'The Ha Ha Wall', one of the standout tracks to me. A lot of filler surrounding it though.

Oh man, I can't believe that one guy said Can't Stand Me Now is a horrible song.

A bit messy and inconsistent but 'Can't Stand Me Now' is a classic. I always enjoyed 'The Man Who Would Be King' too. A bit too much style over substance compared to the first record, cool jam anyway.

Always wonder how good they could of become if Pete hadn't found heroin. I know it's all mixed in with the story of the The Libs, but I think they had something special. Third record was too little, too late.

Not even Can't Stand Me Now? That's a serious catchy tune, real charm.
