And agreed Sowing

I’m a head but MVOTC is the only album of theirs that’s been close to being “that all timer” for them in the public sense. I think this album is it. Captures everything they’ve done but elevated it to new heights that haven’t been reached yet

Great review Sowing - really happy you're the one reviewing this. There really isn't a weak track amongst the 10. If I had one issue it would be that the production is sometimes a little overbearing at the expense of the melody. But yeah - probs their best? Up there with the debut and MVOTC for me anyway.

I just relistened to Modern Vampires a couple weeks ago. Used to be a 4.5 for me but I’d rate it 2.5-3 now, so this prob won’t be for me

It may be worth a listen even so. I nearly didn't as I thought they were doing the Arcade Fire thing and slowly fading into mediocrity, but I was really surprised by the quality and creativity.

Never been huge on these guys (Modern Vampires Of The City is easily my favorite of their previous work, and I have that rated at 3.8), but after a few listens I think this is definitely their best.

Review has that classic Sowing hype vibe about it, great stuff!

"It's wild that Metacritic used to include reviews from this site when there's staff that give the worst rating possible to an album without listening to it lmao"

unsure whether this is piss-cheap bait or you genuinely expect a correlation here

The closer here is really powerful, contender for my favorite song of theirs.

I totally love Capricorn too.

Too old for dyin' young,

Too young to live alone,

Sifting through centuries,

For moments of your own

I wanted to like this more but it feels very unfinished and underwhelming

“Unfinished” Yeesh. I think this is one of the best produced albums in the last few years. So complicated and chaotic yet captivating

I believe anat might have been referring to unfinished in a songwriting context, as in these songs could have been less about the polish and had their substance bolstered instead.

Either way, I disagree =D
