Glad to see this get a review, very strong album, although After is definitely my favorite of the Ihsahn records I've heard.

He's insanely consistent. This one just has a massive sound that I cant get enough of

I think I'll always be partial to early era ihsahn. This is alright with some cool spots but doesn't really reel me in

I massively admire him as an artist but his solo stuff does nothing for me.

This is dope, admittedly wish I enjoyed Ihsahn in general more sometimes, but oftentimes orchestral black metal isn't totally my bag.

This isn't really black metal at all though. Ihsahn's just been straight up prog metal with harsh vocals for a while. Maybe like 3% black metal lol. The first few albums retain a bit more of that black metal sound

Yeah, there's very small bits of black metal here

Yeaaaah the musical theatre aspects of this are even more intense than on, say, After, and I think it's to the album's detriment. And I wish Ihsahn switched up his vocals after 30 years.

This most feels like a black metal Bond soundtrack.

@kkarron I get that criticism, but interestingly enough that is exactly why I like it as much as I do

Aye, I've been into his stuff for 20 years now, I know his deal, I'm just... growing apart from it. A decade back or so I might've loved it for the reasons I'm not digging it so much today.

A nearly perfect realization of Das Seelenbrechen's vision.

first time checking his solo stuff and man this is incredibly good. the orchestra sounds so massive and full. i appreciate going all out if you're gonna do it. his cleans are really great as well which i didn't expect. cool blend of stuff. might 4.5 this after a few more spins. really gotta check his other stuff.
