The first half has some great songs, I still need to listen more to the last 5 songs or so. Maybe it's too early to say, but some trimming would've helped. Still, the record is better than expected.

"How are you bozos lapping up a phoned in 2023 blink 182 album and STILL haven’t even heard the new Angel Electronics album? Ash Nerve and Ada Rook have been shaping the pop-punk / happy hardcore scene from behind-the-scenes for a hot minute and you grout-lickers probably don’t even know a new blink like this wouldn’t even exist if Barker wasn’t breaking bread with them and sharing production notes at Jupiter Sound all throughout the pandemic"
yeah, honestly the thought of jamming any 2023 pop punk not named Angel Electronics gives me brain death

"Doin his best Jane Doe impression"
that's actually a pretty good guess.

Incredible review, happy to have another from you. Not surprisingly, I agree with everything you said in the review (the highlights/lowlights, what we expect from a good blink-182 album, etc) and this definitely hits the "classic era blink" spot for me. It's ever so slightly bloated (I think 12-13 tracks here would have been even more effective), but when these guys are on (which is most of the time here) they absolutely kill it. Strong 4 bordering on a 4.5 for me right now.

There’s a good album in here but I can’t hear it under all the drums and Autotune.
Seriously, imagine if this had their old producer. Or you know, someone that isn’t the drummer.

It feels a bit stuffy to me for sure, but that hasn't really hindered my enjoyment. Maybe it will once the "new album glow" fades.

Doesn't feel bloated to me, most songs are around the 2.5min mark. Some tunes could definitely be longer and end a bit abruptly

Yeah, it's fine lengthwise but there's enough tracks I'd cut that would consolidate the blink magic a little more. But as Rowan said so accurately in his review, we don't expect perfection from this band. All the dumb lyrics and questionable decisions are part of what makes this feel like classic era blink.

Excellent review rowan, exactly how I feel about this album after a few listens.
I fear the autotuned choruses will get annoying in the long run.

Turpentine is genuinely their best song since Ghost on the Dancefloor at least lmao

Blink Wave is the +44 Sequel I’ve been waiting for and I still think more than you know might be the strongest song here.

Never gotten into these guys and don't feel the need to check this, but absolutely wonderful review, Rowan!

I rly wish I could get into this. Modern day pop punk stuff just doesn’t do it for me, reminds me a lot of the rly mediocre music I used to champion in high school. I guess for many that’s part of the appeal - the nostalgia - but even by Blink’s standards this sounds so middle of the road, and this: “ All the dumb lyrics and questionable decisions are part of what makes this feel like classic era blink.” just seems like a hall pass to excuse shit songwriting. Even when I was madly in love with their self titled, I could have done without the filler tracks. The “charm” or whatever of that superfluous content was always lost on me, and it esp doesn’t work when they’re in their 50s
