Ascensionism was awesome, but Rain caught my heart and I'm not entirely sure why

First run-through and... ehh...
I *want* to like these guys so bad but it feels like they have an identity issue. I can't find the thread that links the songs together; it all sounds disjointed. Maybe this is an album that is better listened separately than altogether at once?
Also, am I crazy or does the autotune on the singer's voice make him sound like he singing through a cardboard tube at times

I kinda hate how much my friends blow their loads over this boring-ass band.

I always feel like the overwhelming praise these guys get is some kind of psyop that I'm not in on. There's just nothing about them that grabs me or differentiates them from "commercial" rock at all. I don't mind that it's soft or poppy but there are just no dynamics to it at all aside from a few poor man's Deftones 8 string chugs and absolutely insufferable vocals.
I will admit I was very turned off by their visual schtick and the "worship" calling card though, so maybe I've just been biased from the start, but every song I've heard from them puts me to sleep....token.

Visual schtick + "worship" gobbledygook is straight goofy, agreed. Art is subjective but I'll always clock costumes as a gimmick.
But something about their diversity in sound and (supposed) earnestness in delivery is what hooks me. I'm a sucker for distorted chugs in harmony with melody and/or more "accessible" sensibilities. Just does something to my brain. Maybe because so much heavy music is obsessed with being tied down in the muck while these guys' songs often surprise me with their wild tonal adventures.

Wow this is abysmal. Volbeat called, they want their awful vocalist back

Upon first listen, it's their best album. The call back to "The Night Does Not Belong to God" on "Euclid" is pretty cool. I don't think it's going to sway anyone who hasn't liked them in the past, but it's pretty strong.

Saw these guys are playing Rot Fest so I suppose I will check it out.

Yep this is the best Sleep Token album top to bottom for sure.
Love what a hot take people think they have when they compare them to Imagine Dragons and shit.
Tell me more about how little music you listen to

Yeah, I'm not convinced. I think another spin is in order but I don't see myself going above a 3 on this one. Oh well.

I’ve tried these guys here and there and I can see the wide appeal but god damn it’s boring and the vocals are so bad

this band is still corny, but this album is so much better and more cohesive than their past albums/material. pretty surprising considering this one's >1 hour long. enjoying this a lot!

"I don't think it's going to sway anyone who hasn't liked them in the past, but it's pretty strong."
Wrong, for me the 2021 album was a complete dud and boring as sin, minus a couple tracks. Sundowning has some decent songs but the sound wasnt fully realized, this is the sound fully realized it's their best work for sure.

yes agree

Definitely their best one. The title track is a really good summation of their sound in terms of the non-singles. Really the only tracks that are a bummer are DYWTYLM and Are You Really Okay?.
Ascensionism was on track to lose me too, but the shift towards the heavy stuff at the end was pretty engrossing.

There are definitely elements of the band that get under my skin a bit and there's things keeping them from being among my absolute favorites, largely a formulaic writing style that hasn't changed much while I do feel like they've really tightened it up and improved it overall here, and also lyrical content.
But there's something about the sound they've crafted from the influences they've pulled that is really unique and addictive, I can see why the band isn't for everyone but i also think it's pretty funny and obnoxious how viscerally upset people are over their success or that anyone could possibly deign to enjoy their music.
