Also 2019 was amazing, wtf Johnny. Arrival, First Body and Nocebo to name a few. Even I released two albums lol

First Body as the second album on that list does not inspire vast confidence. Nocebo and Arrival were lesser highlights but not quite dealbreakers hm
"The only semi-consistent way to assess quality is by the quality itself - legacies are defined by their highlights"
Even if we go by that metric, the best thing I heard from 2019 was a 6-track power pop EP, followed closely by an A minus -tier Nick Cave record and a headache-inducing concept pop marathon that I haven't touched in forever. Still periodically searching + waiting for that top 3 to change, but man did the year not deliver for me

yeah I know you and Pots are not fans of First Body, but god I loved that album, made the year for me.
|
| |
I don't dislike First Body at all, but it worked way better on the Terrace House soundtrack than as the hot new thing in downtempo
speaking of which yikes you can tell that Two People have not been tagged (on sput) by the usual audience for their genres

ooooo, another jazz related orchestra named group? I might as well try it out

Stop trying to blame 2019 for how hard you musically fucked the dog that year I’ll break your tv

2019 was really good, 2022 was easily the weakest year in recent memory by a mile

it's nice, but it's kinda more mellow and overlong than what I was looking for from these guys

'2019 was really good, 2022 was easily the weakest year in recent memory by a mile'
yeah, comparing my highlights of 2019 (which definitely is the only way you can judge btw, agreed tect / Pots) to 2022 doesn't make great reading for the latter. Considering that year finished a mere 4 months back, my desire for returning to any of it is dwindling rapidly. Frighteningly few select cuts aside.

Thanks for the high praise, Dewi. I have to extend my gratitude for conceding the honors to me. You were, after all, the reason I so quickly hopped on ARRIVAL back then - I couldn't ignore such exaltations (I think it was shortly after you turned me onto FIRST BODY, too, which is also among my Top 10 of the year, f'k tha haterz).
Rare that an album inspires me enough to want to write about it to this extent, but this is something special. Understand those saying it's too mellow / subdued / long / uneventful, but I also feel that they're unfairly, subconsciously or otherwise, still assessing this album in the towering shadow of its predecessor. Time will separate those convolutions and the cream will rise to the top; this is one of those albums where each listen reveals something new, something that totally went under the radar hitherto.

This thing is a mammoth of a listen and I know it will only get better as times rolls on. I think the long form does this thing wonders even if its a slog to get through in one sitting (but not in a bad way). Once the individual pieces sink in like the first three or four movements of Echoes I know this is going to shine. So far, so good

Hyped to check this.
