If I liked Halloween but didn't like Shape and Destroy, would I like this?

This isn't super similar to either of those. The lyrics here I feel are his weakest yet, unfortunately, and it straddles the line between country and mainstream/radio rock -- but his vocals/production continue to be top notch. I don't personally think it's as good as S&D or Halloween (the latter is a classic for me). All that said, Ruston is an incredible vocalist and songwriter, and about half the songs here are amazing, so if you've ever enjoyed his music, you'll find something to like here.

That's definitely not my genre. Different strokes for different folks

I want to listen to this but to do that I’d have to stop listening to Wednesday. What a quagmire.

This album is good, don't get me wrong, but that Wednesday album is so incredible and iconically weird that I wouldn't blame you for putting this off a few more days.

Yeah I love Ruston Kelly and this is nice but I immediately listened to Wednesday twice after this lol

"I don't either lol, Andy Hull didn't invent orchestral indie rock"
there is a distinct corniness in the vocal delivery that they share

until anyone has a more convincing claim, imma assume that this whole subgenre of vocal corn is directly descended from M. Shadows on a7x's DEAR GOD

My first listen to this gave me Goo Goo Dolls vibes. Or just 90s contemporary rock/pop in general. I'm not saying that's good or bad, but I was fairly underwhelmed

That's actually a great comparison and definitely what I meant by radio/alt-rock. I think this is a step down from his previous work, but not as big of a drop off as I thought on my first couple of listens. Tracks like Michael Keaton and St Jupiter I'll probably never fully embrace, but Let Only Love Remain, Better Now, Mending Song, and the t/t are all excellent. This is hit or miss, but there's enough "hit" that this stayed in my rotation and made the songs I was initially on the fence about grow (got the promo back in early March). Now, I kind of love the whole thing for what it is while still acknowledging that it could have been better.
