this is barely not a 3.5 but I haven't listened to this band since Jay-Z appeared on their album. I think I missed all the apparent garbage in the mean time

This might be their best album next to their debut

For me, it's Infinity > Folie > Cork Tree > Stardust > debut > SR&R > American Beauty > MANIA, while keeping in mind that there's a pretty massive gap between the top 5 and the bottom 3.

Ayyy, my ranking would be the same or close, as the order of the top 3 could vary depending on the day

No wayyyy this is that good but I’m hopeful honestly miss this band…I’ll peep and hold off expectations but can’t help but get a bit excited at the rev score (and nervous now)

Being addicted to a FOB album is such a blast from the past

We all ride the nostalgia thing but it’s inexcusable for these slags and this shite

My summation of the lead single for this is still accurate.
"Surprisingly don't hate this. Nothing special, but better than a lot of stuff they've put out in recent years."
Album is good and fun. Unlike their recent offerings which were neither.

Honestly, Save Rock & Roll wasn't terrible. It had some terrible songs for sure, but it also had plenty of good ones. The Phoenix, Alone Together, Just One Yesterday, and My Songs Know remain fun jams.

Fake Out is such an incredible song!!!!!!! oh my goodness!!!!

Save Rock & Roll itself is fine, but aged rather poorly -mostly due to the band itself lol It's definitely got some bangers but it maybe gave the band all the wrong lessons learned. Maybe Stardust will help recontextualize it yet again now that we have the missing link between the band's pop-punk glory and NHL-core nadir

I agree. I think MANIA was their largest misstep, but I could also do without most of American Beauty/Psycho. I think if they'd just gone from Folie to SR&R to this, I'd still view their discography as very consistent. All that said, Stardust is the first thing they've done since 2009 that's actually sent me into full fanboy mode. Everything else post-hiatus I was in some way indifferent/lukewarm towards.

Save Rock n Roll was honestly pretty damn exciting for me when it dropped because it was their reunion album AND the title was somewhat literal as rock had already suffered a massive backslide in terms of popularity and it was kinda nice to have an actual band in the mainstream attempting to square the circle of what sounds were hip with actual instruments. I'm not Dave Grohl levels of old-man-yells-at-cloud, but it's kinda nice when there are groups in the charts.
American Beauty/Psycho honestly made my stomach kinda turn in knots because it seemed like the band were no longer in on the, uh, joke? There was a knowing wink on Save Rock & Roll that was sorely lacking and the singles like Centuries and Uma Therman just seemed so shallow and pandering. On the whole, it was a bit of a nothing album that wasn't overly offensive but entirely disappointing. It should've been no surprise that MANIA was beyond the pale, as they were seeing massive success with electronics and bottom-of-the-barrel hooks. I guess I could commend it for actually pushing boundaries into some weird and unconventional stuff -you can't say that they didn't try to take a big swing with it- but the actual result was an unlistenable mess that even the band themselves wanted to quickly move on from.
