this reminding me of Turnstile does come with the heavy caveat that I've spent most of the last two years actively avoiding Turnstile lol

Fair, I get it for sure. It is as entry level as you can possibly get in the realm of hardcore

This is pretty catchy. Totally unexpected sound. First band that came to mind was Idles.

i really enjoy what these guys are doing, even if some songs sound exactly the same vocal-wise
sweet review, glad someone made a thread for this rocker

I've been hanging out in Hattiesburg for like several years, living there for 3. It's been a pleasure watching them take off. Couldn't be nicer people, honestly.

This slaps. Whoever wrote this review needs their ears checked though, this album does not have guitars. Guitars are mentioned multiple times in the review and there clearly aren't guitars so that's honestly a bit funny. It's also not really derivative, it's a pretty fresh take on synth punk. Kind of a unique sound. I can hear some elements of synth punk bands like The Units but it has a more hardcore approach.

I feel like most people make a distinction between guitar and bass in rock music.

I like this but being talked at aggressively in the same monotone shout wears on me, and is the big nitpick I have. I don't think they sound like Turnstile, but are in the same genre and have an overlapping audience.

@ Million: i couldn’t be bothered, i was getting ready to go to work lol. Anywho, Pitchfork agreed that there are blistering riffs. If y’all want further proof, please look it up yourself I am eating a bagel.

"Whoever wrote this review needs their ears checked though, this album does not have guitars."
dude flops back and forth between guitar and synth, but mainly sticks to synth. guitar prob comes out for some of those demo tracks. either way, potential AOTY. the ones that keep comparing MSPAINT to Turnstile are the ones that need their ears checked.

if i were to write a review and talk about bass guitar i would call it bass, and guitar would be used to refer to something different. on the album there are no guitars. riffs don't have to be played on guitars, for example look at Show Me the Body who use a banjo instead of a guitar. doesn't mean they aren't riffs. the guitar-esque sounds on MSPAINT are quite clearly synth.
