Been on repeat since they put up the stream last night.

'Merged in Dreams' is apotheosis in songform. The riding bass groove driving the song is chef's kiss so perfect

Progressive Rock it is.
Thanks to eirinn and Joellipopelli and insomniac15. I agree that tags can't capture music like our ears can, and maybe that's what I find most interesting about genres. No matter how hard we try, the boundaries are always fuzzy.
I've HEARD of Progressive Rock, of course, even if I can't identify it with confidence, but for example I only recently looked into the existence of "Shoegaze," which I had never heard of before I started taking reviews on this site a little more seriously. It makes me feel pretty ignorant and narrow in my genre preference(s). But that's what sites like Sputnik are for...
Wait. To make me feel ignorant? or to inform me?
Anyway, I'll keep "SPACE ROCK" handy as a ready response....

How are the vocals on this? They always prevented me from really getting into their previous albums.

I haven't listened to Omens since it came out, but I remember the vocals sounding like something you'd hear from a pop punk band. Maybe I was wrong and they haven't changed their vocals at all, but their singing reminds me much more of what they were doing on Lore and Reflections.

The vocals are p much Elder, they do some new stuff with their singing, but it's not really that much of a departure from their earlier stuff, be warned

Very very excited to hear this lfg, thought Omens was great but clearly lesser than the previous one so it's nice to see that it was just a lil bump in the road

I have found exactly zero things to complain about on this album. It's basically faultless.

Best Elder since Lore? Yes. Is is probably my AOTY? Also yes.

Fantastic album sadly let down by the muddy production...

I really like they somehow continued what they were doing on Lore, even if not as good.
Lol at the muddy prod comment

This is why one most hold off on making AOTY lists until like Christmas. I'll never forget D'Angelo dropping Black Messiah in mid-December and turning my ranking upside down.

From what I've heard so far, its no 5 like Lore. As a fan of the band it seems on par with last 2 albums, on what they aim for each. Although I must say it can go further in rank as with what happened with gold&silver.
PS: I must say I had Lore 4d for years untill I 5d it
