Driftwoods is another one of my favourites too ngl. But yeah, I was not expecting this to be so good.

Surprised no one has mentioned the homage to Shawshank Redemption yet. Instant goosebumps the moment I recognized Brooks theme.

One of the best albums of 2022. This is a worthy spiritual successor to Splendors. Only song I think is meh is the last one, the rest are just perfect

I think the last track is more of an outro than a standalone song and in that regard it works perfectly.

Yeah same.

I hope they keep going, writing consistently, and can tour well on this. Band sounds fully revitalized.

"From the Embers" is such a beautiful song. Got lost within it.

this thing is completely overproduced. sounds like a millions edits and effects rather than a band performing.

Maybe your sound system is the problem?

Rec me more death metal with horns (that isn't Nile). It's so good here.

The production feels a little on the loud side but that's my only gripe with it

It is Jens Bogren behind the buttons and dials here, who works or has worked with most popular, significant modern metal bands. Guy has a pretty reputable portfolio: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jens_Bogren

I dont think production work here is a huge departure from prior work, other than the band is hitting the gas here more than the last one.

Someone mentioned katatonia, but im not hearing them in this album at all.

All I can hear is Katatonia tbh. Essentially a proggier Katatonia.

A rec for you Egarran but it’s black metal with horns, from last month Diabolical Raw - Elegy of Fire Dusk

Yeah I also sometimes get Katatonia vibes here.

All I hear is Disillusion. This is so much better than their last album. Driftwood is the one.

I actually somewhat enjoyed this, time will tell if it’s a grower or not
