the vocalist is actually good live, too, unlike geoff was during his later years.

Geoff is in his sixties man, he used to be phenomenal live during his peak.

I wouldn't waste any time and just start with Operation: Mindcrime from 1988

Page break: Don't waste time as a new listener just go straight for the 1988 album Operation: Mindcrime

btw Geoff is much better live now last I heard, but for a while there he was butchering the classic Queensryche songs with a new style of vocals, which sounded very gay/cabaret style shit. He was like making the band do that style lmao. He had to go.

You can just blindly pick any of their first 5 albums and that would be a good place to start

Album kicks ass, La Torre shreds.

Excellent, spot on review, I agree that this one alloys the band’s legacy.

Have to spin the previous two albums as well.

Todd La Torre was also in Crimson Glory for a while before Queensryche, he filled the massive shoes of Midnight (not easy guy to replace on vocals)

For someone who’s never really listened to Queensryche, other than hearing my uncle blaring it on his stereo, what’s the best starting point?

Edit: nvm, saw this was already asked and answered

And a correct answer at that. It’s the best progressive metal album of all time. Every vocal, every beat, and every chord is perfect. Mindcrime.

Willie bro, this is solid, but I think The Verdict crushes this.

I've been sitting with it for a while. I wasn't expecting much, as once again we have intro-to-photoshop level album art here, but I'm fuckin' hard pressed to find a skip. It slows down a *bit* after the halfway point, but damn man I'm pretty impressed. I don't always agree with the review though, like for me "Lost in Sorrow" is the 'ripped straight from empire' track here (and I don't mean that negatively).

I'm not sure what the writing credits are here, or for the last few albums, but in my mind this is as much the La Torre show as it is Queensryche reclaiming former glory. I did it in my own reviews of the previous albums, and I've done it a ton generally, but it's starting to feel like missing the point to compare to the great albums of a band that is three members and thirty years removed.

And....on it's own...the last four albums are all pretty enjoyable in their own ways. And that makes me really happy as a guy who always wondered what else Whip could have done. If you were to take the three or four best songs from each album in this era you'd have a bad motherfucker of a modern traditional heavy metal album.

hopefully this all came out close to intended. I think Todd may have a legitimate claim to being in the top thirty-ish greatest metal singers of all time at this point (the balls on the man to take up the helm of both Queensryche and Crimson Glory). And since I can't pick just one, best Todds by album, imo:

QR - Don't Look Back

CH - Guardian

TV - Man the Machine

DNA - Lost in Sorrow
