Sventevith and Grom are black metal classics.

BM era is the only Behemoth stuff that I actually like. Their brand of blackened death metal is increasingly becoming formulaic and boring, while it never was that interesting to begin with.

And then there's this shameless display of megalomania and narcism in their videos. Or should I say, his?

I used to dig this band, but then I got bored, and consequently lost interest.

man this band always confuses the shit out of me, they have great production, great musicianship, gorgeous visuals, and an adequate writer and singer, yet they are the definition of just good, sometimes great but not always.

Yeah this band has been on a downward spiral since Evangelion... Sad but it was a matter of time. They went too mainstream and it's hard to maintain focus and inspiration, more so with Nergal's illness and everything.

Not a big fan of their discog until Demigod. That album made me a believer and I really really enjoyed The Apostasy and Evangelion. Even some The Satanist tracks are pretty good.

I Loved You at Your Darkest is still one of the funniest metal album titles ever

Sounds like some emo teen drama album or something

For some reason I never jammed the Behemoth demos even though I've heard the earlier full lengths. Never knew they were doing outright Bathroom worship on them. Gonna have to check them out now.
Just threw this on. Haven't heard the last couple but I'm curious
EDIT: Bathory not bathroom. Leaving it there though because I find it hilarious that's how my phone autocorrected Bathory

Poland shares it's western border with Germany, which explains everything. ;-)

I always thought they should go back to their Demigod style sound, so much more going on, so much more interesting. And I'm a black metal fan, and love even simplistic Black metal, but I think these guys do the Demigod style sound much better than they do Blackened Death Metal.

I don't think I've ever heard a single behemoth riff that was interesting. Every now and then, I'll give this band another shot and always come to the same conclusion

Shame to see the band sink to the point of effectively turning Bill Maher's show into a painfully mediocre dm album. Wish he'd just kept his attention on the Polish church given the political climate there, focusing on real censorship and suppression that he's actually suffered from over attempting to milk bullshit right-wing sentiments. Not sure how much it'll actually impact the brand of the band though, given some of the scene's fascistic tendencies. Would have thought that Nergal was above this kind of stuff though, as he otherwise seems like a pretty decent guy, and definitely isn't on the same level of a lot of the scene's more infamous artists.

Album is pretty mediocre. Might go back and jam The Satanist though just because of how much praise it got when it dropped.
On the note of Behemoth lacking interesting riffs for me at least, on the albums I enjoy they aren't so much a band I jam for the riffs specifically but moreso for the barbaric sound of everything combined. Honestly though the layered vocals on some of their stuff are what really hooked me in initially.
