I am so obsessed with Vaya and In Casino Out that I forget Mars Volta exists. Man, they were amazing.

"funny you say that. i actually got the boxset and i was reading the book that came with it yesterday. turns out my overall assessment on the matter was pretty accurate; omar was having a nightmare getting the album finished and rubin was like a mentor to him during the piecing together of deloused."

interesting, I said that based on what I've read and seen, watched a whole lot of interviews from them just last week and everytime someone brings Rubin up they somehow express dissapointment, even in the spanish ones lol, went as far as saying Deloused is a record they can't listen to, but I'm sure time has changed their views tho

also I am really jealous about that boxset, mister

And Sputnik is also weird. I have like the 5th profile picture and not even one of them showed up in these threads.

Here I am in 2021 learning that Frances the Mute has a title track...

Agreed that Frances T/T is one of the best songs they've ever written. I'd love to own a copy of that album on vinyl but if the title track isn't the first track, I don't want it.

Thanks for sharing that info DrGonzo, I was also under the impression Omar wasn't a fan of what Rubin did with the album.

@XingKing- lol agreed

That demo opening to Roulette Dares sounds like someone making fun of TMV. These tracks are all versions of the songs we love, sitting uncomfortable in the Uncanny Valley. Everything is just a bit...off. Like when you go to see your favorite band live, only to find them piss-drunk and underperforming.

I was naively expecting demos of songs we never heard, like B-sides. Instead we got a butchering of songs that have better versions available. These were demos for a reason. Interesting. This is a fun thing to poke around, but hardly worth digesting on its own.

Nah. Scroll back years on the Frances thread and you'll find we've been discussing it the whole time.

Not sure I'd listen to this a second time, but it was definitely worth at least one spin. Really fascinating to see just how much Rubin contributed to the sound and just how expertly crafted the final result was
