It's not even that the first half is weak, it's just that the second half is that strong. What effect did you guys use with the guitars on Indiana? That's one of the coolest parts of the entire album to me.

Oh and please tell me that Amped is/would be a single, that song is really accessible and catchy af.

yeah we released Amped back in September, maybe about 4 weeks before the album dropped

Indiana’s ending has a reverse delay setting on it and it was also recorded through an iPad lol

Yeah after a full week of listening I'd rank the tracks like this:

5/5 - Saint Mary's Road, Amped, Indiana

4.5/5 - The Second Chicago Fire, Nickels and Dimes, Flicker, Worms

4/5 - Sunset Hymn, Capo 3 Song, Flesh to Spirit

3.5/5 - Raindrops, No Ride Home

That's going entirely off memory though so I might need to spin those bottom 2 again to see if there's a big hook or cool instrumental I'm forgetting. I guess my point here is that even at its most unremarkable this album is still enjoyable. At its best, it hits me in the feels with a simultaneous blast of 90s emo nostalgia.

Gotta come back to this soon

I remember liking it but not exactly loving it, but if it's a grower I want to give it a chance to, well, grow!

Thinking of bumping this to a 5. We've been getting much nicer weather lately, so I've been driving my son to various parks and playgrounds in my area every day and this has been on in the car constantly. Even during a weekend that includes Ben Howard and The Antlers, I came right back to this today. Forming a lot of memories with this and it is just perfect warm day driving music - which is funny because in my review I went on a length about how it's such a night album, lol oops. Guess it's just an anytime album.

I've heard it, yeah. I remember thinking it was pretty good but not quite understanding the hype. I haven't re-listened to it or rated it since my last ratings wipe, so it might be worth revisiting.

aw shucks you guys : ))))

I love how many Turnover comparisons this gets. JEW’s “Clarity” is probably the biggest influence on this whole thing so I love that Sowing mentioned it in the review

I like this better than Clarity though so I don't know what to make of that

I'm betting lots of folks brushed this off with a polite 3/3.5 based on one listen, but this thing truly takes a lot of time to grow. My first listen was a 3.5 as well, but most of the melodies are pretty subtle and take a few days to become lodged in your brain. I've also noticed that nearly every track has a unique atmosphere. My first impression was that this was pretty but kind of samey; subsequent listens revealed all these extra little wrinkles that make the album worth returning to. I don't know much about your recording process, but I feel like this took a lot of time and attention to detail in order to get it just right. I hope the next release is as gorgeously nuanced.

we may or may not have started writing this in 2017 haha. We tried to pay as much attention to detail as possible

Yeah Saint Mary's Road is oldest song here. That one was written back in early 2017, but every song went through changes during the recording process

Great review, Sowing. Glad this got one.

Nickels And Dimes, Flesh To Spirit, and St. Mary’s Road are my three favorites. In addition, there’s not a bad song on here.
